Total Home Protection Review
Total Home Protection is a home warranty company based out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The company, headed by Ronald Seruya, Total Home Protection’s President, services the District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. They were founded in 2016, and have been offering home warranty plans that cover both appliances and home systems to customers ever since. The company is approved to operate in Florida (read about home warranty regulations here).
There are many home warranty companies out there that offer home protection, and it can make deciding between them confusing and stressful. We’ve put together this review of Total Home Protection to offer both clarity and insight into their plans, quality of service, and satisfaction of their existing customers.
Total Home Protection Review – What’s Covered?
Total Home Protection offers a two-tier plan system with an additional list of optional coverage add-ons. This makes tailoring the plan to your unique needs much easier than it would be with other home warranty companies who offer more cut-and-dry packages with less flexibility.
Plan Type | Coverage |
Gold | repair or replacement of your plumbing system, plumbing stoppage, water heater, whirlpool bathtub, electrical system, oven/range/stove, cooktop, sump pump, built-in microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal, trash compactor, ductwork, garage door opener, as well as all ceiling and exhaust fans. |
Platinum | repair or replacement of air conditioning systems (up to two units), heating systems (two units), refrigerator, clothes washer and dryer, and all other appliances and systems that their Gold plan covers. |
If you’re looking for additional insurance that your appliances and systems are taken care of through Total Home Protection, they have optional additions to each plan including your well pump, central vacuum, roof, pool/spa, water softener, and free-standing kitchen appliances or ice makers.
Total Home Protection is unique in the fact that they offer plans that cover both appliances and home systems (like air conditioning), as it mentioned in other Total Home Protection Reviews. Many other home warranty companies offer one or the other, but rarely combine both into one plan – unless it’s their most expensive plan option. This is often not very cost effective. However, Total Home Protection offers plans that offer a mix of both appliances and home systems – making the value you receive for the price you pay much greater in comparison to competing companies.
Total Home Protection Review – What’s the Cost?
In general, Total Home Protection has premiums ranging from $350-$499. Their deductible for visits from a contractor range between $45-$60 depending on the service. However, you should get a custom quote before you choose to move forward with the company, as your unique situation could alter the pricing of your home warranty plan.
Is Total Home Protection Safe?
Total Home Protection has a B- rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) with 50% of their reviews being either neutral or positive – which is significantly better than many other home warranty company reviews. Part of the problem is that some home warranty companies are a scam – and consumers need to protect themselves against these fraudulent organizations.
The Bottom Line
Total Home Protection is priced slightly above average in comparison to some of their competitors, but their coverage is also significantly more inclusive. Homeowners who are looking to have both appliances and home systems covered without paying exorbitant fees should absolutely consider Total Home Protection to be their home warranty provider.
However, if a homeowner is looking to cover only one specific appliance or home system they’re particularly concerned about, Total Home Protection’s all-inclusive packages may not be the best option on the market.
